Was driving home today and passed a house along one of the back roads that had a pallet of banana plants for sale, so i pulled over and rang the door bell and a 72 year old man answered the door, after we got to talk he claims he is the orginal banana man in VA, "if you have a banana plant from VA its probably from me" yea ok. Well i ask him how much per plant and he says $10.00 for any single plant, so im intrested. I trying to ask what kind they are and he has no idea (the banana man in VA huh) all he knows is they get 25ft tall with small bananas. I purchased one and took these photos. Im a complete banana newbie and only own one Basjoo and that was gifted to me a week ago. The soil these things were in was TERRIBLE im talking water wouldnt even absorb into this stuff had to soak it for 30 minutes and use a hand trowel to bust off clumps.
One one right, small one. Big one is my basjoo (i think)

Cool! I've gotten a lot from garage sales and a few off craigslist.

Believe me, I know a miniscule amount about bananas compared to a lot of people here, but you talk to some of these "growers" and ask about different varieties and such and you get the deer in the headlights look!

Depending on how many he had and how they looked I might have asked for a price on the whole lot.

ps. The tall one on the left looks like a basjoo to me.
