An accquaintance wants to know what kind of banana this is, and it's driving us ... well, you know.


It's found in Burma, where it is called phee gyan. Evidently it is is tasty raw. Here is a photo with a hand and The Reader's Digest for scale:

Sorry I do not (yet) have photos of the plant or flower.

Anyone recognize this? Thanks!

Thanks, Sunfish. That's a huge list. Did you compile it yourself?

I'll have a second look at it later, but I did not see phee gyan on that list. But there seems to be quite a lot of banananames out there.

I'm sure there is a good reason why you directed me to look at the Fe'i group. However, I'm not finding either a description that matches the banana in question, nor am I finding "phee gyan" listed.

Is there a particular characteristic of this group that matches phee gyan?
