If you noticed 2 weeks ago, in the top photo, you can see the pronounced veins in the leaf. That is a prime example of a plant that has stopped pushing, choked, or stuck.

If it was my plant, I would have topped it 2 weeks, probably a little below the bend in the pseudostem.

If you do decide to top it, use this as an opportunity for learning.

IMO, there is probably a cigar leaf in there trying to get out.

Cut off the top 2 inches then split the piece and examine.

Keep repeating this process until you find the C L.

You do not need to do this all at once, you've already waited 2 weeks.

I think when you get below the bend you should find a healthy shaft ready to push.

I'm in a tropical environment and would take about a second and a half to examine the plant and make the decision.

What does it mean to top it?

Start cutting it from the top...

Cut off the top 2 inches then split the piece and examine.

Keep repeating this process until you find the C L.

You do not need to do this all at once, you've already waited 2 weeks.

I think when you get below the bend you should find a healthy shaft ready to push.

You will be looking for a leaf that got stuck and is trying to get out...

Looks like your plant will be about 12-16 inches shorter when you are finished (Just a guess)... But, it should start growing...

This answer is spot on.

Hey guys what the heck is this? I thought it was a grub at first but it looks like a smashed/bunched up leaf/stalk on the inside of the pseudostem. Is this the cigar leaf? Or should I keep on cutting? I'm not even at the bend yet.

Note the bulge on the stem.
That is a choke ...the new leaf gets clogged /stuck in the stem.
You now have unleashed it ...the leaf will continue to grow and straighten out.
This is the pic that I spoke to you about taken last night. I will do surgery later.
This is exactly what yours has done....If left alone the leaf will pop out the side.
Just clean up the rough edges.
You should be fine now:woohoonaner:

You guys really know your nanners! THanks! And what should I do about the parts that are sliced? will those parts rot? Anything I can put on there to seal it or should I just leave it as it is?

As for your pseudostem, it will start to push growth from the top. Just give it normal growth conditions outside.

As for the pieces you chopped, chopped them up and put them in the compost bin.

Now what do I do about the parts that turned black around the incisions?

Viper1436

This should be removed or is it ok?

caliboy1994

Is it mushy? If so, it is rot and it should be removed. If not it should be fine. This tends to happen sometimes when you prune or do surgery. Posting some pics might help.

Just leave it be... It's dead tissue now and will eventually dry up like old leaves that die and shrivel...
