It's been windy here and lots of rain and all but I noticed a few days ago a new leaf then another and then all of a sudden it looks like I have an entirely new plant coming up from the middle and my P-stem is growing really thick.
Is that all it is that I have a wayward pup misdirected?

Any ideas?http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=53276&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=53276&ppuser=14130)

Could you show a picture of the whole plant/mat from the ground up?

Not much of a mat and the torrential storms here of recent have not done it any justice but here it is.

I just don't understand this big wad of leave exploding out of the top...so strange! I just got this banana in March.

Good looking plant, time will let you know. That is a variety that we will attempt to get if after reserch shows it will do good here. Good growing and stay healthy.

Pups look normal. There may have been some internal damage in the top part of the plant that caused the unusual growth. If the pups show similar symptoms, the plant may be infected by a virus.

Okay now I sound worried when I say this, but, I've had it happen recently to two of my bananas. I think it's just signs of the plant being unhappy and sort-of starting over, but, for all I know it's a disease. I had a Namwah go through slow funny growth for a while, then literally start over with new small leaves right next to (as if a second plant inside the original) it. Same with a Mysore - It was unhappy with rather poorly drained soil, and started up some really small leaves as if starting over. They're fine now though.

I hope not this variety wasn't cheap since this is the second time I have purchase it...the dog ate the last one! Wasn't happy about that exactly!

When I got it in March it had a soft P-stem from being handled and grabbed in the same place over and over, it was the last one the guy had, I don't think this is the issue now (?) we are 2 1/2 months from that now...but I could be wrong.
I got a PM from someone that says, they think the cigar leaf died for whatever reason and that is what is causing this issue...time will tell I suppose

I think in the end it's going to be OK, just like yours... it's just really odd, I have 5 other different types of bananas and all are doing fine, but they are in a more protected area as well, I have put them between my house and the house next door to try and see something pleasing other than Icky weeds...I should put up a fence but I would rather see and eat bananas...LOL
