Hello All!

I am in the process of moving to Florida from Western (frozen) Pennsylvania. I have taken a job in The Villages, and am looking to move somewhere nearby. I'm not sure whether I'll end up slightly North, South, East, or West of there. While I think I'm going to miss my well established northern garden, and my Apples, nuts, berries, and asparagus patch, I'm very excited about starting a new garden, with types of plants I've only been able to imagine for years. It seems to me from my reading that there is a climate dividing line right about at the Marion county line. Any advice on where to look for property in a garden friendly environment would be appreciated. Like most northern gardeners, I dream about growing some tender tropical, such as bananas and citrus. Thanks.

Welcome and good luck! I hope you find a good place and love it there. I know I can't grow tender tropicals outdoors but I certainly will take giving them special care to grow indoors/in greenhouses than living directly in FL or CA. But, that's me :)

To grow tropicals in a marginal area, greater Orlando, try to find a place as far south as you can and near one of the coasts.

I know a guy that you can talk to that grows just about anything containerized as well as in ground and he is in Winter Park.

Welcome to FL. :08:

HEY from South Georgia,

There are low chill apples available. Anna apples and its cross pollination apple Dorset Golden are very low chill at 200 to 300 hours. You will love the blueberries too!
