Hi

I have planted my bananas in my backyard, I am in Atlanta-GA-, USA zone 7.
Some were stored in my basement, others I just bought. This is my 3rd banana year.

Some are alive and going already:

-Musa Basjoo
-Ensete
-Chinese yellow (4)
-Tall Orinoco (2) (1 alive, 1 rhizome still dormant inground)
-Musa velutina (Several very small)

Some Ijust planted the rhizome and no green in sight yet:

-Zebrinas (3)
-Dwarf cavendish
-Tall Orinoco (2) (1 alive, 1 dormant)

All the bananas are very close together, I like the jungle look. Can I start fertilizing the bananas that are awake, will that bother the rhizomes I just planted in ground?
I almost killed a tall Orinoco rhizome last year like that, I watered it like an animal while dormant and got no results so I dug it up in June and it was muchy and rotted, I left it there thinking it was dead but came back and gave me a nice plant.
So I am still carefull watering my freshly planted rhizomes.

Thanks a lot

Patrick

All you need is a trash can....add some organic matter:

Fresh Horse Manure
Fish Meal (Buy at a farm store)
Little bit of potassium

or Google for recipes...found this definition:

What is compost tea?

Compost tea is more or less a liquid version of compost. You take your solid compost, and soak it in water and let the mixture sit around for a few hours or a few days. Then you pour the liquid through a screen, or through cheesecloth or something similar to strain out the solid material into a bucket. What you have then is compost tea. Compost tea is great, because it is a very mild, organic liquid fertilizer that provides beneficial live organisms that improve the soil where you use it. It doesn't burn plants like store bought fertilizers can.

If you can not find any of the above dump a bag of cow manure in the trash can and fill with water..

The UCT-9 compost bins I use have a compost tea catcher sold seperately.
