I have a orinoco in a 45 gallon pot that I got last year and it currently has a 3 foot pseudostem and I also have a dwarf namwah in a 45 gallon pot that has about a 4 foot pseudostem, they are both currently in my south facing sunroom growing well with lots of humidity and warmer temperatures. My question is I have the east side of my house that gets a ton of very warm sun more then my sunroom, because of large trees, should I put the pots out there for more sun? My concern is that the sunroom stays warmer at night with lows outside here in the low 50's and in the sunroom it stays no lower then 60. in addition, it is humid in the sunroom and rather dry outside. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

I also have a double mahoi and gran nain and a dwarf cavendish, I know the cavendish family doesn't like to get to cold so I was worried about putting them outside too, but maybe I should.

If the nights stayed in the high 30's or low 40's I left the gran nain & dwarf cavendish outside, so long as there wasn't going to be any frosts. Put them outside & they will do much better than they would in.

I am going to experiment I pretty much have 2 of each banana so I will put one outside and one in the sunroom and see what happens.

Outside. You will get much better (faster/stronger) growth there. 50's are nothing to worry about. 40 is where I start to think about moving things in.

The orinoco might actually make it outside depends how cold you winters are up there (in the ground).. What zone is that? :^)

The zone is 8b but we really don't get to hot and we do get snow every year but they can ll come back inside. I have and blue java Ice cream that is about 9-10 feet tall, with the leafs, that I will have to top before I bring it inside this winter. I think i might just have to take all of them out. I will just have to water more. Thanks

Just depends on your lowest low.. If its in the mid 20's orinoco will make it and do much better in the ground... :^)

Does it take a little while for the bananas to get use to being outside before they really start to take off again. The ones I have put outside have kind of stopped growing while the ones that remain inside are growing.

Yes, that's not uncommon....especially if they are transplanted into the ground or a different pot at that time. Mine typically get pretty trashed at first (wind shreds/breaks frail winter-growth leaves, leaves get sunburnt to a crisp, etc), but once they start putting out new growth, they grow fast and strong.

Depends ho much you disturb the root-ball when transplanting.
