Hello everyone,
I have an 8 ft. Ice Cream in a 30 gal. smart pot with 3 pups and 1 more that's just appeared. Two are now close to 2 ft. tall and very close to the motherplant. I would love to remove 2 and repot them but I'm not sure if 1) the pups are big enough and 2) if it would harm the motherplant. Because it's an enormous plant in an enormous pot, it would be great if there were anyway to remove the pups without taking the entire plant out. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Cut the pup from mother and pull it out.

Thanks guys--this is really helpful! Ok I have just one more question. After coming out of winter dormancy the leaf petioles from last year broke in the middle so that the leaves hung down from the tree. Over time I cut them off one by one as they started to die off but the left over petioles and leaf sheaths on the pseuostem are rotting, and it hasn't seemed to bother the tree, but there are 7 or 8 that are doing this. All new growth looks great, so no need to cut back to healthy growth. Is this normal or ok? It looks just like this picture:

Thanks!

I don't think that there is a "true" answer to that, every one has their own opinion as to what to do... For me, I wait until they are dry and hard, and then cut that off...
As long as you have new growth, you seem to be doing fine...

Thanks Duckfood, is there any reason this happens? All of my other banana plants' old leaf sheaths just dry up and wither, but then again, these were cut before they were at that stage. Also, all of my other plants are still very small, so I don't have any other comparable plants.
