We had them in Europe and they grew like weeds and will take over your garden. But they sure look very cool. We had them in partial shade but after a while they were EVERYWHERE!!

If you are refering to the "true" chinese lantern (Physalis alkekengi) I find these are a relative common and inexpensive garden center/nursery plant here in Canada but fair warning - keep them in a pot, unless you want them to spread........and spread they will - they are one of the few plants that will survive in zone 2 as a perennial (listed as zones 2 - 10). I might even suggest creating a buffer zone around the pots so seeds can not take root.
They like sun to part shade and will spread by seed, readily self-sowing, but be careful as they are considered an invasive or a noxious weed in some areas.
WARNING: parts of this plant are poisonous if ingested, unlike the similar looking - and extremely tasty - ground cherry (Physalis pruinosa) :08:

That is not Chinese lantern, which is a low growing perennial plant only 18-24" in height

Chinese Lantern (Physalis alkekengi)
Hard to say from the pictures but the leaves almost look with a type of Flowering Maple - Abutilon - which is a flowering shrub up to 10ft in height and hardy in zones 7 - 10 (often sold as a houseplant up here). They like full sun and come in many colors - wide range for the flowers and sometimes with a variegated green and white/yellow leaf. The leaves will also vary from deep and pointed to shallow and rounded but all have the 3 points. This shrub will get quite full and branching once mature. The flowers can appear at anytime (only in the summer and fall up here) and it is best to remove the flowers once they are finished blooming as the seeds will be knocked loose easily. Don't think they will be as invasive as physalis but you might have them popping up in time.
If what you have is abutilon, you will be please when it flowers as they are really beautiful and I get a lot of comments on mine. Good luck! :ha:

That is DEFINITELY abutilon - Flowering Maple - nice find
It would like a sunny spot, and you can prune it a little shorter so that it will bush out if you like :)

these plant grow easy from cuttings. We have 3 or 4 growing around the yard and about 12 cuttings potted. Good plant for yard sales since most have flowers most of the year. Good growing.

It's gorgeous but here we can only keep that one as a houseplant, not many of them will survive outside :(
On the bright side, my cold hardy abutilon are starting to flower.....
