Is there a setting in control panel to activate the spell checker on threads that we (I) post in? I frequently overlook the obvious, so if someone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful (& look so much more intelligent when posting!). The button shows, but it's kinda grayed(?) out ... not 'clickable'.

It's in need of repair, I'll move it up in the priority list.

Not a huge priority w/me, lol - just wondered if I mucked up my settings somehow ... it happens. Frequently. Unfortunately. Cars, watches, clocks, internet explorer, etc. Not complaining, just checking.

Keep working on things as have been, it's just getting better & better! The wiki is shaping up nicely, & I've only begun to go through it!

Thanks!
It's a labor of love!

PS that's why I call it Internet Exploder... do yourself a favor and download firefox www.firefox.com it's really easy, faster, and a lot safer and less prone to problems like IE is.

As for your cars, clocks, etc... you're on your own there :D
Have a wonderful weekend!

We just need one of those 'spanking emoticons' for Ron - I'll use it on him! http://h1.ripway.com/nunya/Boards/spank_butt_smiley.gif

Unless he likes it.

Then I won't.

You can't ty a flying dutchman with a rope pithy. He will allways be sailng against the wind and flying over the waves. And so it will be forever and ever as the story says.

Good news! The spell checker is fixed!

At the top right of the little window where you type your post, look for this image: http://www.bananas.org/images/editor/spelling.gif

After you type your post, if you want to spell check it, click the image.

A new window will open up that is very self explanatory.

I loaded up a dictionary file of COMMON words. As we use a lot of jargon and scientific-speak, latin words, etc. here on our board, we must teach the spell checker new words! Fun! This is a group effort! So if the spell checker is suggesting you fix words that YOU KNOW are properly spelled, please take the moment to click the "Learn" button for each word you would like to teach the dictionary. If you are not 100% sure it is spelled properly, just ignore it, and over time, someone else who is sure may get it in there.

This is quite a useful tool.. as I tested it I found spelling errors that I had made in some posts that I did not intend to make. So even if you think you got it right, sometimes mistakes happen. By making a quick spell check a habit when you post, you too can make the world a better place.

We are filled with ready & randy wit, coupled with wisdom both indefatigable & extemporaneous - steady at the fore, to rush forth to the aid & keeping of the much awaited & vaunted Speel Chucker!

Only a most rare & unique combination of pithy one-liners & longwinded fact-spewing verbosity has a chance of edumacating the Speel Chucker! Most conveniently - we are almost never at a loss for words, meek about making a public scene, nor without a compendium of references ... nicely arranged by topic in color-keyed binders. With heroic audacity we will confront the perilous, peripatetic & unvanquished ... the unknown semantic territory with down-home wit, uptown didactic pedantry & the well-worn Webster's combo dictionary nee thesaurus that we keep in low-slung, snug & secure, holsters at all times.

Hey ... it works.
And it didn't upchuck trying to digest the spew just thrown at it above.

But, it doooooon't like being called Speel Chucker!

Thanks, this is a great addition (now I only have to remember to use it - & to thank the friend whose diatribe I just plagiarized, contorted & mangled)!
