View Full Version : Uniform Nutrient Uptake?

Hey guys, I got a nerdy question. If I using a foliar spray on my bananas, does the whole plant benefit or just the individual pseudostems? The reason I ask is because the sprayer that I am using doesn't have enough pressure to reach the leaves of the taller p-stems and it seems that my pups are growing at a faster rate than the mother plant. I have only had these plants in for about a year (started from tissue culture) and I’m not sure if I am witnessing normal growth or if it’s being influenced significantly from the foliar sprays that I am using. If it is relevant the spray I am using is a homemade blend of Epsom salts, molasses, liquid kelp, and Bonnie herb & vegetable plant food. Any thoughts would be appreciated. My main concern is that I want fruit before the possibility of frost in January so I want to make sure that the mother plant is going full speed. Thanks.

On dicots foliar sprays are absorbed much better through leaves than stems. A small, 1 gallon, pump sprayer would reach the leaves or you could use a step ladder.

Good luck

I'm targeting the leaves with the spray, however I don't necessarily have enough pressure to get the leaves of the taller p-stems. So I was wondering if the nutrients are primarily absorbed and used by whichever p-stem gets it or if its uniformly distributed between all the p-stems on the mat. Thanks.
