My basjoo is pretty sad and didn't like overwintering this year. I want a head start instead of buying a tiny tissue culture, i want a good sized basjoo with a nice healthy corm. I would like to try to do a swap with what I have for someone looking to collect.

I don't want to separate the clump on the left this year, maybe next year and obviously no pups to the ensete. For now I have this guy on the right which furiously pupped last season:

I was told it was basjoo when I purchased by the seller but I think the guy had no clue. From some member guesses it could be Saba or Orinoco but either way definitely fruiting.

Anyone want to take a stab at a mystery fruit? The plant is at LEAST 5 or 6+ years old at this point.
The picture was the start of the winter, they don't look so presentable being in my basement all season but would ship with pstem and maybe a leaf or 2. Different sizes depending on what size you have to trade. Probably my most prolific of bananas I have had up here in nh.

man you ought to plant your basjoo out and leave them like I do and save your space for overwintering tropicals. I'm in 5 zone too. Divide that big one up this spring and plant each one a foot deeper than it was originally growing. Then backfill the hole with soil and let them grow. then I just leave them alone and let them freeze down in the winter. I think I've lost one since I started doing that 3 years ago, and something ate it over winter.

if only it was really basjoo that I had :-(
That's why I want to try to trade some of these. It pups like crazy and then I transport the whole mat in the house. I want something that I can just leave outside and be sure.

Try it with one of the pups, then if it does die you still have a start. My basjoo has been in the ground 4 years, I mulch heavy in the fall. It was 15' tall last year.
