Hey guys. Great forum!
Ive been reading every thread back years all day today since finding this amazing plant.

I just received my 3 Basjoos in the mail. They were sold as Grandmother Bulb (7 Gal)...

Basically 3 large bulbs stuffed into a small box in plastic with paper shreds around it.

I left them in the box tonight because it was way too late to do anything with when I got home. Im planning on planting tomorrow afternoon.

I am in NY. We are having a cool spring. Afternoons are mid 50s to low 60s. Nights are mid to low 40s. Although the weather should start getting nicer very soon.

My question is, can I plant these bulbs where I want them in the yard? Supposedly they came from plants that were between 3' and 4' tall.

I can put them into a pot if needed, but I would rather go straight into the ground if possible.

Thanks a lot!!

Hmm, if they are bulbs or (corms) they should be ok to plant in the ground right now. I assume they haven't sprouted up yet sending out green shoots? So I think they should be good to go. The time they will grow in the ground during the next couple of weeks will be insulated enough from the colder nights to finally get past the last frost date. So by the time you see them coming out of the ground they should be safe in the clear.

Mitchitsu PLEASE tell me they weren't from TyTy!!!!
I ordered three of the same - and what I got instead was three different species, none of them basjoos... and they wouldn't exchange or refund me. I learned my lesson! Keep an eye on them when they start sprouting...

You can plant them right in the ground. Just make sure the area is well draining.

Thanks everyone. I planted them tonight.

They are TyTy. I know they get horrible reviews, but Im used to seeing people pile on bad reviews on the Internet.

They were cheap enough that if there is a problem, it wont be a huge deal. Worse case scenerio, I will cancel the credit card transaction and order them somewhere else.

They did look very good and healthy. They are only giant bulbs with an inch or so of stem though, so its hard to tell if I got what I was supposed to. :)

Thanks again!!!

Yeah, if you actually got healthy plants that are growing well then congrats! I just don't trust TyTy. Have you seen their videos?! Creepy weird wastes of time and banana plants. (some of them literally are just weird videos of kids smashing up banana plants)

I sure do hope that if they aren't the real Basjoo, you won't feel too bummed out if they die due to cold intolerance.
