hello i failed to cover my 2 year old musa basjoo this winter. i live in northeast ohio. they got 13 feet tall and 5 trunks about 8 '' in diameter its a big cluster what are the chances they will come back . they look rotted but down about 4inches they get a little more solid thank you:nanadrink: what time should musa start popping up

So is it only the plant above ground that rotted? As long as temps never went below what Basjoos are hardy to, you're fine. The corm below the ground is fine and will sprout up new plants once the last frost ends, and temperatures are warm enough for them to decide to emerge. For me, it's May.

Lived in Ohio in zone 4 and my Basjoo would come right back,I cut them down like to several inches from the ground. Forget when mine used to come back.

When your soil temperature gets well above 50F, they should start pushing up from the ground. Wait another week, and you should see something emerge since we are supposed to be on a warmup.

I live just a couple of hours to the northeast from you and I didn't protect this year or last on the older ones. They come back. No growth this year YET, but the winter cold wasn't extreme (albeit long). So they should be fine below the ground.
