Of all the tropical plant and horticulture memberships I have you all are the best community by far. Can't believe I never found you sooner. Learning a lot and loving the integral and diverse discussions not found elsewhere. Just saying thanks everyone. I'm into Aroids, Brugs, bromeliads heliconia musa and such and this IS DEFINATELY where "it's at"!!! Kudos to all of you! And hoping to meet some if you. Nobody else around here understands how excited I get about my bananas and tropicals....thanks again!!

I love this forum it is great. I've been in love with nanners since like 2005 and had one close to flowering in my mother-in-law's property last year. I enclosed her garden area so the ducks, chickens, and dogs didn't damage plants. Well without fail no matter my efforts, the ducks ruined three of my tallest nanners! The ducks picked at the P-stem until it fell over. The other bananas that I partially rescued, usually the outer leaf sheathes were gone and so the next leaf came out through the whole on the side, it was really strange. Anyway I am not growing on her property now so I'm protecting my own plants and things are going a lot better. The only thing is I'm starting out with the new bananas which is OK as I love to see them grow.
I also am getting in Aroids. I'm just starting to grow Amorphs, Arisaemas, Dracunculus and others this year. I'm excited to get the Amorph tubers as big as possible so I can get hopefully get inflorescences next year!

Did you try spraying the p-stems with hot pepper spray? Just a suggestion, I've never heard of duck damage before, so I'm unsure. Try it, refreshing the coating as needed to maintain the fresh capsaicin.

Chironex,

I never thought about the hot chile spray. Lord knows we have more types of chile here than most places. I bet that would have worked. I personally don't have duck/banana problems anymore but I'll try it with my MIL's baby nanners that are coming through from the corm that surprisingly didn't die. Thanks!
