How much does it cost to ship a banana pup through a priority mail usps medium rate mailing tube that weighs no more than 1-2 lbs?
Has anyone shipped this way or is it better to just go with the flat rate boxes?

The 38" triangle box is better, and the longer triangle box is even better (super heavy -duty).. Plants that are meduim size have leaves, which helps in the transition versus getting chopped for the flat-rate box.. :^)

Does anyone know how much it costs to ship one of those long triangular boxes?
I'm just shipping a single small banana plant, and flat rate boxes would be simply too short so just need to know how much it costs if it is getting shipped lets say from the east to the central zone with 1-2lbs inside.

I just sent a small pup out this way for the first time. Priority Mail service was $6.60
Box was from UPS --- the 4" x 4" at 4 ft long.
I was amazed. Still ---- a big fat old mamalucca corm, topped, and sent in the large Flat Rate PM box will get you fruit way sooner than a 1 lb corm-let.

I use flat rate boxes only and use them more because of the weight of some of the corms

Me too. Lowers shipping cost and delivery is fast.
Distance between zip codes is going to make a difference; a 2-pound sent real close is going to cost similar to the 1-pound rate ($5.05 vs $5.82)
2 pounds going cross country = $9.88
The "Regional Rate" boxes can be a particularly good deal, freezing the weight rate at 2 pounds.
