I don't have measurements, but I've noticed on mine that the leaves seem much thicker and more rigid than any others I have. I have a couple and they're both that way.

Could u explain how u do your mesurements a bit more. What kind of gauge, like a caliper?

An easy way to measure leaf thickness is with a spark plug and a gauge.

Now I've heard it all.. lol :^)

Wow, never even thought of measuring leaf thickness. I had a Mahoi two years ago, and its leaves were bigger than my Namwah, but, I didn't have others around to also compare with.

I planted this tissue culture late August or early September, it had a Pre Flag Leaf on March 15.

None of my tissue cultures have been labeled correctly, but this is definitely a dwarf and appears to be a Cavendish.

The one thing that is very different about this banana, compared to my others, is the leaf thickness.

I'm hoping that someone with a Mahoi can confirm if it is supposed to have thick leaves.

Leaf Thickness in inches.

Rhino Horn 0.017

Giant Plantain 0.017

Namwah 0.017

Williams 0.021

Mahoi 0.033

OK . My Mahoi leaves are much thicker then the other plants I have . Just feeling them by hand they feel twice as thick . Sorry no spark plug gauge here ..
Your picture looks like my Mahoi also :-)
Mahoi grow fast and do well for me. Plus taste good also , But I notice all my bananas (Cavendish) seem to not get real yellow ,, There is a color change but not anything like in a store..
Hope this help you and we all seem to get mystery plants as TC .. I have one thet looks as if its going to be blooming soon , Was bought as Ice Cream From Wall Mart ha ha so you know its something different but it has grown well so its a keeper ...

Just thought I'd share a few pics of my furthest along Double Mahoi. My first generation died without flowering, but the one pictured is its pup. Several months ago it started being very strange with oddly shaped new leaves. Then it started sporting 2 cigar leaves, and the 2-in-1 pseudostem became obvious. For me, it is one of my slowest growing varieties, but it keeps going and the leaves are big, thick, and green.

It looks cool, each leaf is more variegated than the previous.

Overall though, the Mahoi is a SHlTTY BANANA TREE, really just a novelty.

If the fruit is variegated, that might be enough for me to keep the plant around.

I heard only Puerto Rican royalty were allowed to own the variegated Mhoi. That is a very valuable plant. :woohoonaner:

I'm pretty sure I've read in multiple scientific publications that 4 out of 5 banana scientist agreed, that only Puerto Rican royalty and True Blue Java Hobbyist should be allowed to own the Very Valuable Variegated Mhoi plant.

Hey thats a good looking bunch.. Your were whining about its being a poo poo plant. Now I see all those great looking fruits :c). Ha ha some of the "doubles" can be pretty whimpy . I got one pup from last year and I keep telling myself. Dig it up. But one more year. Before I do that. If I remove it Im replacing with a dwarf PR plantain. Im gonna get some azomite and give that a go too . I know it will help.might even use your grass clipping chamber also. Today my neighbour tossed out his trash can. I went right to it and now all I need is to mow for the green.

Yes CER on those doubles is a problem. Mine last year had about 15% CER. But still eatable and were better than store bought. A friend of mine went to Going Bananas in Homestead and bought me the doubles as a gift. I would have picked something completly different had it been me spending my money ... Ive had Williams here in the past. For me they grew just OK I found Cavendish grow like weeds and do much better.. But thats here in my back yard. Other people seem to want exotic types of banana. Im just looking to grow the easy ones and from time to time plant some different varieties . Your postings here are always informative and helpful coming from an experenced grower..
