Hello everyone I'm pretty excited to join this group because I'm normally talking to Big farms about banana's i never even knew this forum existed and i just fell across it by accident. First and foremost I love banana's. Second i believe a lot of you will get excited when you hear that we are the original banana sleeve company which introduced the organic commercial growers to a Plastic sleeve which fits around the stem of the banana's and as they grow inside the Plastic sleeve their controlling the insects and airborn bacterias replacing chemicals, No chemicals, No spraying just put the sleeve around it and let them grow for 12 weeks. The Plastic sleeves are injected with a proprietary blend of essential oils at the time of manufacturing which prevents insects (which are pheromone driven)and kills airborn bacterias & funguses. Please copy and paste to your URL and see for yourself...

This is great news for us if the bags are available in small quantities to us smaller growers. I live in Costa Rica and have been looking for a source of bage to use but everything is pure plastic.

I would like to buy a quantity of 50 of these if possible.

I looked through the web site but found no additional information other than the photos.

Thanks everyone for your replies we do have them available just not packaged yet for the consumer market. However we can sell them in smaller quantities, the packaging would be plain until we get them packaged for the consumer market...You can e mail me for a quote they are very inexpensive and last up to 12 weeks then they lose their efficacy. We are also looking for distributors here in the US and around the world for distribution to small and large growers. Great product for Internet guru's to market on their own website.
The stuff on the ground are colored tie's which go around the bag it is for the migrant workers, when they go into the office to check on work for the day they look at the calander and the color of marker (red, blue, green) in todays space tells them to cut off all the bananas with that color "tie" around them...another words they are ready for harvest...You can actually cut these down in size and also make other types of sleeves which would protect your plants from chemicals, insects and funguses like tomato sleeves, peppers, and other fruits and veg.

My understanding is that all fruits produced in foreign nations are microwaved upon entrance to the US -- regardless of organic status. Can you verify this?

The next question is can they be stored without losing their effectiveness.
On our property and nearby vacant land we have about 50 banana plants of various types but they fruit at different times all year long.

12 weeks is adequate from the emergence of the flower until harvest but we may only use up to five at any given time so if they lose their effectiveness whether they are used or not it isn't such a good deal for a home grower such as myself.

A little more information would be helpful.

Hello to everyone in Banana land...We are putting together a small scale banana sleeve program for smaller growers of 50 bags per pouch...Once the packages are open they only last for approx. 12 weeks through the growing season as the natural oils migrate outside the plastics over that time frame. The reason for my delays in responding is due to traveling sorry. In response to the different colored stuff or ties on the ground this tells the workers what month the banana sleeves where wrapped around the banana's...
We are currently running test with our Natures Defender cedar oil formulation for the in the Philippines on a Fungus "fusarium" which is soil borne and attacks the root system, Once the test have concluded i will give everyone the results. This fungus in the early 1900's wiped out an entire species of banana's around the world...The chemical sprays can not seem to kill or control it anymore and because our natural Cedar Oil formulation is a natural fungicide we are crossing our fingers in helping this industry with this chronic issue...Once again i will keep everyone updated on the new packaging of the smaller quantities of banana sleeves as well as up dated on the fungus for those who are concerned.

Is it possible to slow the oil migration by freezing the bags?

My needs are small but if I can find a way to get the bags to be effective over a longer period they may be a long term solution. In addition I may be able to share them out to other very small growers in the area.

It's worth a try.

Waggoner 41 Great question we have never tried freezing them with the idea of keeping them fresh...They will last quite a while as long as when you open the bag and get what you need out then reseal the bag back very tightly, storing them in a dry, cool space they will also last for a few months prior to use.
What would you consider purchasing at a time in smaller quantities...give me a suggestion and i will see if we could package these in smaller quantities. The problem is when we make a batch we have to make a large batch other wise its not worth turning on the machines to produce them...Maybe you would like to become a reseller of the bags in costa rica to the smaller growers? I await you in-put.

I spent my entire work life as a problem solver so the first thing I do is question what has been tried. Sealing the bags would be a given but does nothing to prevent an oil from migration.
My first thought was that to prevent an oil from moving is to freeze it or at least cool it as much as possible.

My only income is my Social Security so as long as the cost is within my means I would purchase the 50 you mentioned.

We will talk to others to see if they might be willing to use these non-chemical bags for their very small operations. Under the best of circumstances I might obtain a commercial license to sell them.

Under any circumstances the more quickly we can put them to use the better.
