Hi Guys , I'm bumping this up as we are moving on in the current growing season . So I'm after a Dwarf Orinoco that is a pup from the parent, I know I can buy online but I'd like not to have a Tissue Culture plant. Any Dwarf fruiters considered but for DC :p
Thanks guys

Steve -
If you can wait a month, I'll have one. I just cut the fruit off Monday and it has 6 pups but the newest one is gonna have to come off cause it's heading into the house wall. BUT it needs about a month to get bigger. Probably will also have a Red Iholene and Musa Moahi (sp) (that's the multi fruit bunch plant) and Ice Cream.

Best Wishes

Steve,
I have several Dwarf Orinoco pups that have been cut off the parent. I can send you one for a nominal $20.00 plus shipping. The 3 footer is waiting to be cut off and should be the best bet. The larger one has just been potted and is recovering from transplant shock -- shouldn't be stressed twice. I am In Port St Lucie, Fla.
By the way, I just visited Terry in Lake Worth and got a beautiful replacement pup for my sick Red Iholene.
I did this earlier with a different supplier for my Pitogo and Saba -- fantastic new growth after 3 weeks in ground. I definitely know what you mean by trying to keep alive those wimpy TC plants that come out of a 6 inch pot.

Hi guys sorry I missed these posts , Thanks very much for the offers ,can I get back to you . I have two Ice Cream here going spare but I cannot tell them from Misi Luki and they are mixed up . So if anyone knows how to tell Misi Luki from Ice Cream at a smallish size please let me know.
I'm happy to pass on an Ice Cream.
I have to wait until next month before I can buy anymore plants also Terry was the first to offer so it's only fair I take his plant first unless Terry does not mind if I take pup from someone else.
Thank you very much for the offers.

Carolina , if I can tell these things apart I'll send an Ice Cream , I just found out how cheap it is to send plants out here and the Post Office gives free boxes so I'm all set. So with or without the DO, I'll try and get an Ice Cream to you.

Dan, too many pups, huh? Maybe you should... ohhhhh.. I don't know. Perhaps give them away? I'll send my address. :)
Seriously, I'm interested in both DBrazilian and Goldfinger but think I'll only go for one since I'm on vacation for the WHOLE SUMMER! hehehe. But, that also means no play money. PM with your price.

Doesn't matter to me at all. My DO is still small so go ahead and get a bigger one if you can.
I agree, we get swampped with pups here and I hate to trash can them but sometimes ya just gotta clean house. Packing and shipping can be a hassle.

Terry,
Looking at Keith Bensons post, those big corms were shipped with everthing cut off leaving only one foot of stem on corm.
How do you feel about that? I could unload my big potted Dwf Orinocos much more easily that way -- with just a little soil on the roots and the tops cut off.

It's the only way to ship something big. You don't need the roots either because the corm will put out new ones anyway to replace the damaged ones. I usually trim off most of the roots too.
It takes a while for the new growth to get the pseudostem back to the original diameter but they do grow pretty quick.

Yep, when shipping corms, it is the corm that counts, not the pseudostem. Whens shipping plants it is the intact root system that matters most as they don't ahve the reserves.
IMHO the biggest mistake people make when shipping bananas is taking too little corm with the pup. I think this is a function of impatience. Let them develop a bit before you sever the umbilical chord. Last year I received some pups that had, at most a quarter sized area of corm with rather large pseudostems. Two of them actually had no corm and the meristem was missing. I sent the guy a pic, labled with the problems and linked him to the tutorial here on how to dig a pup and he suddenly stopped posting here and returning IMs . . . MMMMm
Most folks here know what to send, take pride in what they send and send big robust corms - it really helps gets a new mat off to a good start!

This may be exactly what Keith said, but here's my version.
Last fall when putting plants away for winter I took a few pups from them. Three of them were from a Williams Hyb. and one from a D. Cav. Of course I took many others but let's talk about these four.
I have pix in my gallery and can post them as soon as time allows to figure it out. The Cav pups corm area taken was about the size of a golf ball even though the pup was only a few inches tall. I hurt my back bad when taking the Williams pups and didn't really get any of the corm and no roots. The Williams pups were about two feet each. They all spent the winter indoors, mostly dry, and in low light. None were really allowed to gain much growth.
The outcome to date. Again these are the potted bananas in my gallery. They are now outside. The D. Cavendish is growing great with really neat coloring on it's leaves. The Williams: One never did anything but rot. The remaining Two are just now starting (slowly starting) to push up and open their first leaves since harvested in Dec.
My point? I really don't know about the amount of roots on the pups taken. From what I've seen, the greater the corm area taken, the better the pups respond.
I hope this may help stop someone who was about to ship a Pstem with no corm.

I don't trim roots, I would much rather spend the ten cents extra in shipping than to cut the roots! I actually pack the roots very carefully when I ship out banana plants...
