Cyclone Oswald was a small cyclone that developed in northern Queensland and became an intense tropical storm as it journeyed down the Queensland coast. We live on the Sunshine Coast and got the back end of the storm, wing gusts up to 130kph just off shore at a light house near us and we lost at least 8 bananas, 4 with bunches just started on them.

Thats the joys of living where we do - perfect most of the time a bit windy the rest,

Sad you lost your bananas :(

We had it pass right over us in Townsville you could see the center of it on the rain radar but fortunately we only had very minor winds. I didn't loose any plants just some torn up leaves even they are not that bad.

I just got the internet back on most landlines and broadband services have been offline for the last 24hrs it was a fairly widespread outage.

In Brisbane in Sth Qld we had tons of rain and strong winds. Most of my bananas are recent plantings from tissue culture and were unaffected and loved the extra drink.
However my Williams which has 2 mature stems looked like it was going to be blown over so I secured them to the fence with rope. They survived with only 2 bottom leaves broken on the 2 stems.

good things come from just about anything - including all of those banana plants being uprooted and blown over - filled a compost bin with the leaves and used the trunks as a frame for a new garden bed

Australia is as big as the USA - the cyclone happened on the top half of the east coast and the fires were down south. Some fires are still burning but hard work seems to have stopped the worst of them. And help from the USA LOL - we regularly get a couple of helicopters over here to water bomb the fires, the most famous is Elvis.
