To the members of the Bananas.org forum,
I have recently become involved with the efforts of a respected scientist in Trinidad & Tobago where I live, and hope to begin working alongside him this year to help collect and preserve the many varieties of Banana that grow here.
He is attempting to amass a collection consisting of all available a and b genome specimens we can find and set up a number of 'banks' if you will, around our island to promote genetic diversity and by extension resistance etc to the species that is currently under appreciated by our government who are happy to rely on oil to meet the need of our nation for the future.
From this forum I hope to learn more about the different varieties that we have here and to pose questions to you the members as the need arises... I hope that as time goes by, perhaps I too may be able to be of assistance to someone here...
