Has anyone grown a windmill palm in zone 6. I have Musa Basjoo currently in ground and over-wintering. I was looking to add these windmill palms to my landscape.

Just wondering if anyone has any luck in the northeast and also where did they purchase them. I have found a spot in long island called island wide palm trees. Has anyone used these guys or any other places??

Thanks for any info.

Steve

No I haven't but am thinking the same thing. I'm zone 6-ish also. I think they need protection the first couple years during the winter. Good luck and post your progress!

I live in CT and gave one of my windmill palms to my dad and he just covered it with burlap and it survived last two winters.

I live in Western Maryland, (zone 6) and planted 3 windmills and needle palm in the ground this past summer. The coldest has been around 19 so far and they took it without protection (except for mulch) with no problems. The plants are probably between 3 and 5 yrs old. Being the first winter if it gets any colder i'll stick a garbage can over them. I get mine from Chilly palm.. Chilly Palm Tree Co. - Cold Hardy Palm Trees for the Carolinas (http://www.chillypalmtree.com/) AND ebay..but its best to get them from somewhere that tends to get a little cold.

has anyone heard of these guys?? used them etc.
