I think that this banana is about to flower. Will it die after the bloom?

Yes but pups will replace it. You can already see one forming at its base!

Yes, it will die after the bloom and pups will replace it. I believe musellas keep the bloom going for quite a number of months, though.....so it will very possibly still be blooming in the summer. Wiki says they can hold the bloom for up to 8 months.

Maybe I should have left it go dormant for the winter.
