Visited the cousins in Homestead last week and took some avocados home. Variety unknown. The tree is 20 years old and 25 ft tall. Fruit weight averaged 2 1/4 lbs.
I know it is a west indian cause of the soft texture when ripe. Put them in paper bags and they ripened fast. Tasted weak and watery. Any ideas?
The Carrie mango was also huge and loaded with flowers. And I forgot the camera - woof!

That looks like the "lula" variety usually sold under the name of "lo-cal." It is a Florida variety that is larger and less flavorful.
Here is an image of what those look like:

Aint Lula. My Lula is in the ground for 3 years and the fruit have necks like in your second pic. Lula is cold hardy and originated in Mexico. Firm flesh but much better tasting than the greazey Hass. I chose Lula for my place cause of the weather. Some 'cados better than no 'cados here in old PSL!!!
The ones from Hstead are definitely WI. Soft when ripe. I think the reason they taste insipid is the cousin doesn't fertilize much --- if at all. He throws most of his away. Can't sell em cause the market down there is glutted. A shipping carton almost costs more than what the fruit will fetch.
