While standing in line yesterday at the grocery store check out I overheard the cashier greeting the lady in front of me with "HAPPY TREE DAY".

The lady got mad and said "it's bad enough you get 'happy holidays' wherever you go instead of Merry Christmas, but this is too much! Doesn't even make sense!"

The cashier explained that someone told her that the word holiday begins with holi which looks like holy. So to be more politically correct the word should be dropped and people should say Happy Tree Day.

You know what's really funny about the tree day thing is that you're basically wishing for a happy Pagan festival. Get it? (christmas trees being of pagan origin) lol.

Yep; "Tree Day" is already spoken for, it (Arbor Day) is the last Friday in April.

The early Christian church was in the habit of "taking over" the prevailing Pagan holidaze; Christmas being close to the feast of Saturnalia, on the winter solstice.

bottom line; it doesn't really matter what ya call it, just enjoy! ;)

It is a clever riddle, but see if you can figure it out.
Don’t read the below unless you give up.

I gave up and looked. Big party yesterday. Recuperating nicely with my lab and a visiting rat terrier running amok around me while I type.

Yeah, kinda sad how far things have gone to attempt to not offend people. I mean, I get being PC to a point, but there's a limit to everything. Eventually you reach a point where things either don't make sense cause they're so far from what you really mean to say or they begin to offend people simply because you're being so darn PC.

And LOL on the Festivus comment!

I think I should be getting more holidays from work than I am.:ha:
American Holidays - United States National Holidays (http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/National_Symbols/American_Hollidays.html)

Feb 23 National Banana Bread day
Mar 02 National Banana Cream Pie day
Aug 25 National Banana Split day

I am going to have to change the day I celebrate my Birthday. No sense celebrating on National Pina Colada day if you don't drink. I am going to go with National Vanilla Ice Cream day instead.

Maybe we can decide on a date and create a International Banana Day (or week or month) starting in 2014.

Tho the links only are for National days.
