Here are some recent photos taking of my tree planted in June 2008, had a pretty good year this year and the tree is currently loaded with flower buds. Pretty crazy time of year. The fruits are quite good!

I couldn't really come up with a description for the flavor but a couple of friends came over recently and one of them said she thought it tasted like lychee and I think that's close. It is pretty good and can be very productive, though I don't know if I'll ever get huge production. I'm hoping, though.
I bought this as about a 7 year old tree in June 2008 at ONG Nursery in San Diego who had imported it into the state from Pine Island Nursery, I believe. Cost was substantial at $125 but I had heard they are slow.
Jeff Earl (of California Gold fame) has two much larger trees he started about 12 years ago from seed but he has yet to get any fruit from his. He's considered selling one and I guess I might be interested in it based on how this has worked out.

Congrats on fruiting your jaboticaba :) I've been thinking about getting one, too.
How tall was your tree when you got it, and how tall is it now?
Is the pink thing the seed? Is it edible?
How similar are the fruit to muscadine grapes?

My tree was about 7' tall when I bought it and maybe just a little taller now but the diameter of the trunk and branches have probably doubled in the past two growing seasons. I've never had a muscadine. They don't have as much flavor as muscat grapes but they are pleasant and they also seem to stay in good shape on the tree for quite a while. The pink thin is part of the seed covering that got cut off when I cut it in half. I don't eat the seeds or the skin as they are both somewhat bitter.
I have both and have tasted both and Jaboticaba is very similar while having a thicker skin.
I eat the skin and sprout the seeds as they are reputed to come true.
