View Full Version : Basjoo leaves question
What is the reason for cutting off the leaves on a basjoo after they are killed by a frost. Is it only because of looks or is there anothr more important reason. The leaves on my Basjoo are all brown and limp and are hanging over the p-stem. Just wondering if they would help protect the stem a little form the cold the way they are hanging.

yes will add a little protection,,no one is trimming them when they grow in the wild,or the big mats people neglect and still get good fruit from....you only really need sun on the leaves and warmth in the ground..does the pstem really not get much sun in a larger mat??i wonder how important sun on the p stem really is,as long as growing leaves get the sun..maybe somone will do experiments on sun or no sun on pstem

Most leaves are the same once they get frosted they are toast. If your going to get a hard freeze you have to protect the p-stem in some way, and the easiest is to cut the leaves. I'm dusting off my heat-tapes.. :^)
