Hi JoeReal and other friends,
JoeReal once wrote "Raja Puri is prone to choking", but unfortunately I cannot
understand what this really means as facts and effects.
Can anyone explain what this means and what Raja Puri shall be?
Thanks in advance,
Stan

"Choking" means crammed leaves and the inflorescence emerging sideways out of the stem. Can anyone verify/ elaborate please :2236:

Is this a condition that can happen to any banana? Can it be prevented? Is it a disease or a result of something else? TIA Uncrichie.

there is a disease that can cause a similar disorder (Bunchy Top), however the choking in this topic is due to the variety just being prone to choking genetically, not a disease. most bananas will fruit normally with normal care, some, such as 'raja puri', may choke no matter how well you treat it.

Raja Puri just seems very prone to it. It is probably caused by stress of some sort, but Raja Puri is just more sensitive to that stress.

I thought cooling temperatures was the main cause of choking?

I have compiled an "Info" page on choking,
http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Info:Choking
Please feel free to edit the page if you have some other more comprehensive information to add, and also feel free to cite the page whenever the topic comes up.

My neighbor has Raja Puri and it is always a choked up mess. He also has the pineapple form beside it and it had no problems at all. He does nothing to care for either.
