Hi,

Looking for some help ID'ing this. It was sent to me from family in Puerto Rico, but I keep getting conflicting answers on whether it is banana or plantain.

To me, it has some flavor of plantain like when they are black, but it taste like a banana somewhat too!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Antonio

It looks like Dwarf Orinoco, which is a dual-purpose cooking and eating banana. It's not a true plantain, but can be used like one.

I agree; the bananas look "Orinoco-ish", & is my all-time favorite for making tostones.
One of the few that can be allowed to ripen on the plant without much danger of splitting, and like Juni says; they can be cooked either green or yellow.
We'll eat 'em as a dessert 'naner when feeling too lazy to cook.
:nanadrink: yum!
