This Banana has a very thick trunk and has a huge bud. Just don't know that variety it is. Purchased it at Lowes and it just said "Banana". It was about 16 inches when I got it in April of this year.

Two more photos. Inside of the Mother plant, and two pups. It has a total of 9 pups.

Looks like it's from the Cavendish family. Once the bud comes out we'll know for sure.

Did it ever purple marking on the leaves when young?

No purple markings when young or now. Flower should be out soon. The bud is huge and starting to split open. Thanks for the replies. :03:

I think that's a pretty good thought, with them fat leaves and the coloring. :^)

Yes, most likely Dwarf Cavendish based on (1) all the traits shown in the photos and (2) it is the most commonly sold banana at places like Lowes and Home Depot.

Thanks everyone. The bud is starting to open. Hopefully I will get fruit, considering there's only about 2 months until the frost. Not much freeze here in North Central Florida, but maybe enough to ruin the bananas. I'll keep you posted and post a photo of the flower. :witchnaner:

The flower bud is starting to point downward, overnight! Was still straight up in the center last night. I'll post another photo as it progresses.

Definitely Dwarf Cavendish -- very colorful bracts.

Awesome! Thanks! Glad it's not an inedible variety! Just need to protect the plant and fruit when we get a freeze in a couple months or so. Not a long or hard freeze here but still could harm the plant. :woohoonaner:

I know nothing, however there is no wine spots on any pups. What about rajapuri?

No, the bracts have too much green on them and the petiole canal wings are too spreading for Rajapuri.

Ya I could find any pics of an unopened rajapuri bud. So are there no wine spots just due to growing conditions or is it some sort of spot mutation?

Wine spots are not normally present on sword suckers of any banana. They are on water suckers. The pups in the photos are sword suckers. Rajapuri can have light wine spots on water suckers.

I need to get me a rajapuri. There are few pics where you can see more developed pups, especially the full bunch shot. My grand naine pups this size have wine spots so I was just curious bc I don't have a dc.

The leaves are slowly yellowing. Is that normal?
