Yo Newbie: I'm a newbie too, and also have a dwarf cavendish. They do not like it he the temp drops below 45F. If it is outside pot it and bring it in, placing near a sunny goes window. Consider it a patio nanner over the winter. I do not know where you live, but I am hauling my new babies in at night and if it is warmer and sunny above 45F, they go back outside to enjoy the sunny day. I will call them 9 month or so outside bananas. I also watch the growth, and if they get pot bound, I'll repot to the next size bigger.
Hope that helps, Welcome Aboard, Stay Safe and tell us where you are! Tom

Is the banana in a window sill? or near floor level? Its going to be cooler there than what your thermostat reading is since it lower. If you look @ Bent nanner thread he has a thermometer at banana level to monitor if there is enough warmth for growth. :^)

Bananas don't grow much at 60F, the plant becomes dormant. As long as your corm/root ball was not frozen or rotten it is alive. You need to give it some heat. I stimulate growth of my young plants by putting the pot on an electric food warming plate on low setting. I raise it slightly above the plate with 2x4s. Try the thermometer test on your window sill if it cools below 60F at night it will definitely slow any growth.
Hope that helps

Yes, warm roots is the key. A heat mat saved mine one winter. If you can't keep the soil at least in the mid 60's, water very sparingly. Pu them on a heat mat set to 80 degrees and they'll be very happy.

Thanks you Guys for all the help
Make sure you don't water it much at all. In the winter when mine are all inside they only get a little bit of water maybe once a month. They are growing so much slower and don't need a lot of water, I keep them on the dry side.

That soil should work with good drainage of the pot....
