Like the thread says I finally got to eat a FHIA-17. I had 100 of them planted at my old farm and never got to harvest a single one. I had 2 at my house and 2 years later I finally got to eat one. That's right 2 years from planting to harvest. It tastes a lot like a cavendish banana. The green life is forever, I harvested the bunch on October 1st and I still have green fruit left over. This bunch was rather small. It had 6 hands and weighed 20 lbs. The fruit was 7 inches long and 34mm in diameter. The other FHIA-17 at my house has a much larger bunch.

I suppose I am spoiled, you guys up north would probably like to just have bananas. I am accustomed to having 30-40 lbs of bananas a little over a year after planting.

I've only had them when they were overripe, and they were not very impressive, well, frankly, not good. Think of that overripe Cavendish flavor, but more intense.

I ate them at the same stage I would eat a cavendish, fully yellow no brown spots.
