This is the biggest bloom I've ever had on a banana so far, the plant was received as "tall ladyfinger", I guess we'll see what that means!
This bloom bud is 16" long, and as big as a football. The plant itself is close to 12 feet tall to the top with around 8 foot of pseudostem, so it's the right size for a dwarf, and the "trunk" is huge. It's in the super big 38" wide x 31" tall pot we had sitting in the driveway with christmas lights wrapped on it.

Maybe as this develops we can get a positive ID for sure.

This is it right before we moved it in. for the record, I'm ruling out anything cavendish related, because the pups have no red blotches when they are small. They are all green. The circumference of the large trunk is 25 inches.

That's what I was thinking, but there's not enough details in the photo to say for sure.

Wow that double mahoi is really huge!
Mine isn't a double though, the pups don't have any red blotches on the leaves, even when they're small. They are all green. All of the tc'd double mahoi I've received from agristarts had the red blotches when they were small.

I wasn't suggesting that it is a Mahoi, as mine has 53in pstem.
I just wanted to be cool too.

Back with pics later

I'll post another picture tomorrow. We have estimated about 100 bananas on it. About 9 hands. Still have no idea exactly what it is, so the initial dx that it came with stands so far as tall ladyfinger. We cant use the bloom to identify it now because it started throwing male flowers so we cut it off and gave it to my Thai friends who were dying to make a salad from it or use it in curry. The bloom weighed about 2 lbs, they were thrilled.

we've been letting them ripen on the bunch and cutting them when they're nearly yellow. I took 25 of them to the farmers market and sold them last weekend, and took some cut up to a master gardeners meeting the other night. They taste different and the plant looks different from my ice cream, which I guess they are saying since it came from agristarts 6 yrs ago is probably a namwah too. I think this one is a ladyfinger or something different than namwah unless there are different types of namwah. it has topped out around 9 feet, and the "ice cream" goes to around 10 with a different shaped banana.
