I have a Tall Cuban Red that just flowered and the bunch has about five hands. This is my first bunch so I am curious. The fingers though are only about 4 inches is that what other people get from their red bananas? For some reason I had it in my head that they were going to be about 8 inches. I'd love to hear what other experienced. Thanks

Can't say from personal experience because my Dwarf Red still hasn't fruited, but the reported normal size for all the red varieties is 5-7", which agrees with what I see in the grocery store.

I would say 4"-6". Well fertilized and watered might get you up to that 6"-7" range

Be patient on yours though, they are still very young and will get a lot bigger.

James, I am not as optimistic as Gabe is on your bunch.
It appears your bunch is in about the third week of fruit filling (photo uploaded 9/21).
I don't know how well my data will translate to your situation, but this I can say for certain.
By the 10-14 day mark of fruit filling, Horns have basically reached their final harvest length. No significant increase in length will occur after that point.
I don't collect data on any bananas regardless of color and only harvest about 12-15 bunches of Reds annually, so my knowledge here is quite limited and don't recall noticing any significant increase in length after the third week.
From what I've read this is the leading internet site on bananas, so there probably is a post somewhere with a set of chronology photos of a Red bunch maturing.

I may have some either here in my gallery or on a hard drive somewhere. Too many photos!
Oh and to answer the OP's question, my Jamaican Reds were always small too.

I bought some in Kona Hawaii that approached the 8 inch mark. The were delicious cooked or when a little more ripe, out of hand. But, I agree that usually one can expect them to be smaller.

Thanks for all the responses. Really I am just happy to have these whatever the size but was wondering if they did get larger. We had a dry summer to that probably affected the growth. I have another plant that is going to flower soon so they may end up bigger as they will have benefited from the 9 inches of rain we had in Sept.! I have attached a pic from today that shows they are fuller but not much longer per my measurement.

That must have been a huge banana, maybe 12 to 14 oz.
Six inch is about max for mine and I thought that was big.
