Hello all,
I bought this banana about 2 month ago and waiting for it to put on some leaves. Nothing happened. I noticed the p stem starting to lean so I cut the only leaf it had and peal if off to the ground because was black 4" from the ground level up. Few weeks later I could see a cigar leaf at the top. I was waiting and waiting to see it open but was not coming out. Two days ago I noticed that something was going on with the p-steam one inch above the ground level and today I saw a small leaf.!! Now I have 2 p-stems. Please look at the pictures and let me know what to do?
Thanks,

Pat

Its regrowing from center. It could've grown a pup as well. It looks like you have a leaf on that new growth that is still up the center of the old p-stem so be careful when trimming it down. :^)

I am not quite sure what to do. Should I peel or cut the taller p-stem and leave only the small one?
Thanks
Pat

Leave it. It'll eventually sort itself out.

Pat

What has happened is that your P-stem has been damaged.
Note on your plant that there is damage right above the "blow out". See the dent and black area of your banana.
As with your plant as well as others the new growth will take the easiest path of resistance---the weak part of the P-stem.
Soon the new P-stem will cause your old growth to act like a old leaf and eventually slough off just like the others.
I tend to chuck my plants by the stem when moving them and sometimes I damage the stem and this is the result.
As the other fellas stated in previous posts this will indeed "sort itself out"

Happy Gardening!!!

Before I read the responses my curiosity took over and I peeled one more layer to free the cigar leaf I saw on the top. Underneath was another leaf. Now I guess I have a small p-steam. I am glad that everything is Ok. I was afraid that I'll lose this one too ( I lost one to rot few weeks ago :-(( )

Probably the p-steam was damaged during shipment because at my house nothing touched it.

Thanks everyone for your answers.
