Can someone please explain what this is?

It won't allow me to type in the web address without spaces, but it is:

www . bananasquarterly . ec

That is Beth's banana website. She used to be a member here and was dealing with the bananas quarterly magazine until she and this sites owner had issues about it and parted ways. She was then banned from this site.

I'm surprised you don't know this being a magazine contributor.

That's a site started and run by the former BQ editor. It's an ugly story that you may just want skip. http://www.bananas.org/f10/bananas-quarterly-11147.html#post121915

I was a very early magazine contributor when the publication started. I heard about the fall out, but I was not aware why it all started. I then left the website for a long while. I just recently discovered that bananas.org had become a paid website for a time...I'm not sure what the goal was there. And, I also just discovered that the banana journal is still being published. It sure seems like the number of posters at this website has decreased by a lot. Where did they go?

For a time it was a pay to play site to keep out the spammers.

As for people posting, they come and go just like you did. Life get's in the way sometimes or they just loose interest for growing bananas, and we have had a few regular posters pass away. New people are constantly joining with questions, photos and brags so I think it all evens out in the long run.

Austin, membership here is at a record high. Some former active members don't post as much as they are further along in the learning curve and don't have much new to report. A couple of formerly active members have died (Tog, Patti). There is no other forum devoted to bananas that has any significant level of activity.

From what I understood, the transition to a fee basis for new members of bananas.org was done for two purposes: to help fund the costs of hosting/running this site and also to discourage spammers. It was switched back to a free site after some complaints and, as predicted by MediaHound, spammers quickly returned. I've had plenty of work to take care of those spammers.

In the beginning of this site a group of banana enthusiasts shared info, asked questions and made some friends along the way. We worked as a group to disseminate this hard earned info.

Today someone with a question can use the search function on the site to find an answer to just about anything banana related.

I am not sure what the complaints were about the $5 a year membership fee but I would gladly pay if it helps you keep spammers out and cover the costs of running the site. If there is a way to make a donation to the site please let me know.
I would also love to see a qtrly magazine but i know that would require lots of input and people don't always have time.
