I have learned so much about bananas reading from this great forum. There's something more I want to know.I was reading about overwintering banana plants by digging them out and storing in cold and dark place.I couldn't stop wondering could you get fruit from them this way? And I don't mean 2-3 bananas per plant, but some decent amount?

It has been done, but it's not easy.

It takes some work and luck (bloom occurring at the right time to facilitate fruit maturation), but it's totally worth it. To be honest, I just grow for foliage...but hope to someday get fruit when I have better facilities.

It took me two years but I finally got fruit. The video shows you how I overwinter.

If you had power near by you could put the big old fashion x-mas lights up in the barrel to keep it even more warm. Oh and I forgot to show in the video that I stuffed the barrels full with straw insulation.

@Blake09 Yes I saw your video before :)
So,it can be done! I wish I knew how awesome bananas are a few years ago...
The main task for me now is to find the best cultivars that would do well here in zone 6.So far I've got Basjoo and Cavendish, but those plants are still small...
Those Orinocos look awesome.Oh boy can't wait for spring :ukkibannana:
