My (fake?) Icecreams and D Orinoco all bloomed in June-July and are all plumping up nicely so I think and hope they will be ripe before the first frost here in Dallas, which usually happens early December. But my D Brazilian just sent out a flower so my question is if you think there is any chance of seeing it ripe indoors if I cut it down in about two month when the first frost warning comes?

Any insight is most welcome!!

Probably not, but it's worth a try. Dwarf Brazilian is a slow-to-ripen variety. Even in good banana growing places it takes close to 6 months (170 days on average for Hawaii).

Yeah, I'd try....but honestly wouldn't hope for much.

I say there is always hope.. of the hands you get I'd cut 2/3's off and hope you get the 1/3 to fill out. :^)

This is as of today, just took this picture a minute ago so it has about 2 months to ripe.
I was hoping to dig up and store this p-stem in the garage, good thing I have another pup. (Sorry, dont understand why the photo keeps getting turned from the iphone when uploaded)

Its worth a shot. Try to dig a big area so that you don't cut any roots off if you can. I figure if you keep it warm and in the light then it will be fine.

I'd make a 2"x2" greehouse for it.. wrapped in plastic :^)

No, what I mean I was hoping to keep it kind of dormant in my garage like i do with my other big p-stem bananas during winter.
This one is kind of lost from that aspect. Hopefully the first frost will be late but also the next two months will not be as warm and nice as the previous two. So in my mind it wont even be like 2 full summer months since temperature will go down gradually now going forward and start hitting 50 even in the evenings.
On top of that my banana fuel just ran out but I honestly don't expect that to make any difference compared to the warm weather or am I off?

I think Oct will be good, but slow down in Nov.

remove 1/2 or 2/3 of hands

no point to wait, cut the flower off after your first 20-40 fingers are exposed

I've started culling my DC @ 55 fingers because winter is coming, even in FL.
My Mahoi is about to flower.
Looks like the first 4-5 hands for it too.
Sad? Yes.
Not as sad as 146 tiny, rotten, ruined bananas because I was greedy and left them all to NOT mature in time.

Heck, why not leave 10 fingers and see how big they get LOL :lurk:
