Just picked up 2 DF in 3gal, each container has 3 plants. They have some long arms and I could easily wrap them to a post. My question is if I should seperate each plant and spread them around the container or plant as is. They will be in a 25 gal. Also how much pressure/twisting can they take when tieing them to the post.. I've seen many photos that show the DF does'nt need to be wrapped tightly all the way up the post, just well secured at different points. My upper trellis will be seperate from the plant/pot/post.
Thanks for the help Larry |

I use plant stretch plastic on the roll for like tieing up tomatoes & such I don't tie them tight just enought to keep them in place usually using their barbs to my advantage. I didn't have to tape my Yellow DF long before they were well attached. The American beauty is over 6ft tall isn't attached anywhere to its post yet, but all in due time. :^)

I wrap the vertical post of my DF trellis with some burlap (used zip-ties to hold that to the post). Then used that green plastic strip stuff (garden section of stores) to hold the DF to the post. Doesn't have to be tight, just to keep the DF from flopping. The DF will sense the post behind it and send out roots towards it an will eventually anchor itself to the post.
Mine are all in ground, and started out as one plant per post. As mine got larger with branches, I took cuttings and planted them to grow up the same trellis as the plant I took the cutting from. You could probably leave the three together (not separating them) and train the stalk to go up different sides of your post. DM |
