Does anyone know what plant this is? It looks sort of like strawberry guava.

It looks allot like my Strawberry Guava that I purchased from Lowes about 3 months ago. The fruits are shaped the same, although your fruits look allot deeper red than mine. The blossoms and leafs look the same too. Mine flowered about 2 months ago and hasn't flowered again. The wind knocked most of the fruit off.

We used to have a house in Kauai, HI and strawberry guavas were very common there. They are an invasive species over there. Here in AZ, I would be happy to have more than a few fruit each year.

I might pass by it again and get a few more pictures. It was growing as a hedge, I believe.

You should pick some fruit and try them. I doubt they are poisonous. The strawberry guava seeds are about 2mm across and very hard. The fruit should have a distinct guava smell.

I did pick one, and the juice was very dark and stained my fingers purple. It did have a hard seed inside, and I tasted the juice and it was insipid.
