As an individual that has purchased from forums before with hoping to trust individuals, in the past I've been let down. I don't wish to bash any particular forum because there is good in all forums. I've read on here as I'm on every day reading and researching.....that the best people to by some nanners from is folks here on the forum.
I'm located in KY and I'm looking for a caligold and a namwah. I have found the following sites and want to ask your personal opinion of them. The sites are the following:Banana Trees Banana Plants (http://www.bananaplants.net/bananaplants.html)
Catalog of banana trees and banana plants offered at Going Bananas (http://www.going-bananas.com/bananavarietycatalog.htm)
Please give your input. Who should I buy from and how can I regain trust from people in forums? Of course time will tell, but let's just be open. Hope you understand. :-)

I've ordered 8 banana's from Going Banana's w/o a hitch.
I've ordered a crapload of banana's (T/C's) from greenearth, 3 this year, 2 Goldfingers and a Texas Star ( looks like a DO so far). The dude at greenearth may take his time but I consider it the most reliable cheap banana plant on the net. His product varies or expands in the spring time. My Dwarf orinoco is from there, and so is my neighbors. I can't tell you if the caligold is the real deal. Where agristarts Agri-Starts, Inc. - Musa (http://www.agristarts.com/htm/main_pages/musa_main.htm) got their material from is going to dictate on that one. :^)
Oh yeah I know where you don't want to order a banana from: TyTy, Willis Orchard, Oasis Tropical, and Florida Hill (Hell) Nursery. This is according to my experiences, and other posts. Some have there own thread where people bash them for their experience (tyty & oasis tropical). I personally don't care for Stokes tropical since they subbed out there plant delivery (before that they were great), and I'm growing impatient w/ Aloha Tropicals, and didn't care for them in the first place.
I thought you were looking for a Dwarf namwah? lol :^)

Thanks. You seem to be on here a lot. Yea I'm looking into a caligold and a dwarf namwah. Looks like I left out the dwarf part which is highly important to its name hahahahah. I think that I have your yahoo messenger name and I may write later. Been busy today renewing license and dealing with my supplyman here at work.

I've ordered a couple from GreenEarth and they arrived as healthy plants that really took off. They are tissue-cultured plants (grown in a lab) so they should be disease free, but might not be as hardy right out of the box as those grown as pups of other plants. This is just initially though. Once you get them growing and adapted to being grown outdoors or otherwise, they will be just as good as any other plants. I cannot speak for the other link.
Oh, also I'd look into buying from Sandy (Sandy0225 on the forums). Not sure if she has the varieties you seek at this time, but I've heard good things from people that have ordered from her in the past.

I can't tell very well from the photo on Greenearth but I know other tissue culture California Gold plants I've seen have shown red splotches on them so that tells me they are something else.
I have a valid nursery stock certificate and could meet your needs, if you're interested. I've got very large and some medium pups of California Gold (my original mother plant was picked up in person from Jeff Earl) and my Dwarf Namwah were grown from tissue culture obtained from "Richard" who had a group buy a few years ago and had ordered from AgriStarts.
Send me a PM if you want to discuss further, etc. I'm somewhat trustworthy with my impulse buying being my biggest weakness. ;)

I have purchased plants from Don at Going Bananas (Dwarf Namwah, Raja Puri, Sweethart (FHIA03) and Double Mahoi. All plants have thrived without any issues. His farm is quite impressive, I was able to go there this past July.

The only specific complaint I recall hearing about for Going Bananas is related to the craze of orders that we went through a few years ago with Veinte Cohol. Some people, like myself, received pretty nice large plants while others (like Chong) received a smaller tissue culture plant. We all paid the same price (which was pretty high due to the big demand at the time), but we did get different value. They shipped which was available to meet the strong demand but prices probably should have been adjusted for some orders.

On Harvey's note the only stock problem they have had is w/ their Braz. that's why it only lists braz and you may end up w/ a tall or Dwarf.

Thanks everyone for the beneficial info that was left behind. Didn't know a couple of questions would pose such a discussion. Hahahaha. Thanks

I don't believe a banana from one source is going to grow or thrive better than one from another source.

That's very true, but in some ways I would prefer a T/C over a small pup, but that's just me. Medium to large pup I'll take corm power.. :^)

I'd rather have a small pup than a tissue culture plant any day unless it was a very large tissue culture plant (2' tall).

I wouldn't just leave it at that Harvey.. I'd rather have a healthy stout 18" T/C over a really thin 2 footer. I can say the Veinte Cohol T/C I got from GB was really healthy and prime to grow. See the pups sent out by GB are lucky to have a leaf exposed, thus the reason for my previous statement. :^)

What are the major differences in shipping/receiving a plant with no leaves exposed? And what is the major health differences in a tissue culture and pup?

No idea on the Ice Cream or D. Namwah, or Caligold, but the Sweetheart jumps out of the ground.. This in reference to banana pups ordered w/o any leaves showing.. and after taking a trip in the mail. Now pups w/ leaves and roots grow just fine. :^)

I wrote Ted @ greenearth about my non Texas Star.. and sent him pics of it.. He's going to send me a SDC maybe thats the real deal... He has a problem w/ 2 other labs he orders from other than agristarts. :^)
plants don't like to have "UP" messed with
I get the feeling smaller plants like it less and take longer to recover from the clothes dryer sort of ride the USPS must be.
