Good morning,

Yesterday I had a look on the website of a famous canarian supplier. Canary islands belongs to Spain and, consequently, to EU.

They offer, on the following webpage, a Musa manzano which has got pink pseudostems and is known to be Latundan banana

Here is the link (http://www.canarius.com/shop/a-z-total/musa-cv-dwarf-cavendish-banana-tree)

And here is a picture of the bunch : Bunch silk banana (http://www.canarius.com/images/carpeta_imagenes/productos/Plants/Fruit_Trees/A-Z_Total/Musa_Platano_de_Seda_Bunch.JPG)

As Musa Manzano has been described on this forum as "mainly green musa", my question is the following :

Is this "Musa-manzano-latundan" the same as the ordinary "Musa manzano" or is it another plant ?

I found this webpage about Musa latundan :click here please (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latundan_banana)

Thanks for help.

Those two plants are the same plant. Latundan and Silk are other names for the Manzano banana. As for the photos, the bunches look pretty similar, but you might want an expert to positively ID it.

They are the same. As Andreas said, Latundan is a synonym of Manzano. The photo in the link is too close up to say much, but the petioles look short for Manzano. Manzano can have quite a bit of pink on the petioles and pseudostem, depending on climate and nutrition. The photo of the bunch is the one that website gives for Gros Michel, not Manzano.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for answer.
The photo of the bunch is the one that website gives for Gros Michel, not Manzano.
About the bunch picture I have posted, and according to them : it is Manzano. See "platano de seda" in the URL = silk banana.
The photo in the link is too close up to say much, but the petioles look short for Manzano.
It is because the plant picture illustrating Manzano on their website is the one of a Dwarf Cavendish.
And, you are right, the Manzano bunch is used on the same website to illustrate.......Gros michel.
You can check all this big mix making a little URL-surfing :
Have a look here on their (unprotected) pictures data base :
toward their picture data base (http://www.canarius.com/images/carpeta_imagenes/productos/Plants/Fruit_Trees/A-Z_Total/)

In conclusion, they use the picture of a musa to illustrate another musa. : purely artistic strategy......

Thanks for help about Latundan.
