This past week one of my musa basjoo started looking sick. The newest roller that was pushing up has slowly browned out from the edges in. It also has stopped pushing up. I fertilize these bananas heavily each year to push maximum growth. I use Miracle Gro every two weeks and I have given them two healthy coatings of Milorganite -- where I coat the ground to a thickness of about 1/8 inch around the entire plant.
I have also been watering heavily since we have been in a drought. However the past two weeks I have backed off on watering since it has rained a few times. Last night I noticed the ground around all the bananas was really hard, so I ran the sprinklers for several hours -- weird the ground was dry since it has been raining.
The temperature has been between 80 and 95 all summer during the day and 60-70 at night. Here are some pictures of the problem. Notice the bananas around it (basjoo and orinoco) are fine. Just this one plant is declining. Also the other leaves on the affected plant are still fine.
Any ideas??
