Over spring break I purchased two banana trees from Florida that are about 4 feet tall each. I live in Nashville, Tennessee and was planning on potting them in a pot to put in the sun on my deck. They are suppossedly a variety that has smaller bananas than those found in the grocery store. What size of pot would I need to get to plant these two plants together and is it okay to plant them in the same pot. Thanks for your help. Angela R.

As large a pot as your space will allow, and yes, you can grow them together.
Lots of water, keep the soil fairly moist. And you might want to start composting and put all household organic waste products into the soil as fertilizer once it's been composted properly. If the roots can't spread out and search for nutrition, you'll need to help them out by bringing it to them...
I'm growing two dwarf ladyfinger in a pot together basically the same way for about a year and have had others potted up like such for years on end. You might stunt them and they may not fruit for many years, but you'll have nice plants regardless.
You probably took home the "DC" which stands for Dwarf Cavendish. They're popular as far as the intro "exotic" banana that folks grow at home.
PS soon you will have many more
Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the information. I'm anxious to repot my plants and to watch them grow.

Hi Angela! I'm from Nashville, but moved out to Knoxville to go back to school at UT. I get back every chance I can though...I miss it! Always will call it home. Just FYI, the soil in Nashville is much nicer for growing bananas than it is out here. My soil here is very acidic (pH=5.1), and my bunch sizes were smaller, as well as fruit size. It may be hard, limestone clay in Mid-TN, but it's pretty fertile stuff.
Here's my "plantation" when I lived in Nashville:

And last year in Knoxville:

I'm getting itchy to plant them out again, but looks like another cold spell coming late next week, so I can wait another week I guess. Welcome!
