My family and I made the 2hr drive to one of the open houses they had. They have a ton of plants! They have decent prices and things are nicely sized. I picked up a Helens Hybrid that was like 30" tall for $20.00. He has several large AeAe nanners growing that are not for sale. I talked to the Manager Mike and he claims they have had luck with them surviving Raleigh,NC winters. I was like HUH! They are zone 7 and get alot of snow and freezing weather. He claims first one they tried years ago grew several feet, they protected it. It was a normal bad winter,it rotted away, then towards the end of summer put up a small plant. They protected it and the one I saw was like 4-5ft tall. He claimed he only had one but I saw three other nanners with white stripped leaves that were atleast 12ft tall. Had to be AEAE also. How in the world did these survive freezing temps in the teens and single digit? They aren't up against a house or anything. Just growing around lots of other plants and trees. Didn't pay attention to other plants around it for shelter. He said one year they ordered several of them and sold them for lots of money and he goes I could have sold them for even more. He goes people were driving by and saw them, put them in the car and pulled up to the both to pay for them. They feared someone else would beat them to them. It bugged me that he was all excited about charging alot of money for them, rather then making them affordable for the average family. My hobbies are plants of course and saltwater reef tanks,my Z28. I always price things fair and like trading stuff as well. Its not a fun hobby if I'm out to make a huge profit.
