these are the 2 GM I received from Terry back in april. Both were planted same day. Both are leaning. is it to get sun? I have other plants in the same location and not doing this. Could the wind have moved it when they were younger?? does that happen? The two both get fed the same amount of food and same amount of water. Please let me know what it could be from.

Ome of these is in a container. Why not try rotating the container 180°?

I will do that

I agree with Sunfish; the plants are probably leaning towards the sun. Additionally, the plants may have been slightly tilted when you planted them. Since they were smaller, the slant may have not been perceptible. As the plant grows taller, the tilt becomes more obvious.

These are the two Gros Michel that I received from Terry. The pictures show the progression from June 19-August 4. They are in full sun, so they are not leaning.

Well! They look great !
They are leaning a bit to the sun. Easy to fix.

Hey Folks

My bananas in containers lean all the time. I am continuously rotating my pots to even out the leans. Mine will start to lean in as little as 3 days. If they get too bad I just repot to make them straight. Also, if your pots are on an incline, even a small amount, your bananas will compensate and grow vertical. Thus causing a lean also.

This spring I made the mistake of laying all my 6' and 8' plants on their sides on my lawn so they would not be blown down. Wow, what a mistake! They were so bent the pots would tip over. They also grew towards the sun. I put photo in my gallery of another plant with a severe lean.......sorry don't know how post it yet.

Lesson learned.

Thanks for sharing your experience, It's stormy out but I went out quickly and rotated the pot. for the one in the ground. I guess there's nothing I can do, steak it?

The one in the ground you you can dig around it and straighten it.

In my experience, bananas lean, period! I have them on the western side of the house and on the eastern side, and they all lean towards the house!!! The one on the south side fell over in the latest storm!! Figure it out if you can - it's beyond me!!

I tipped this pot over for three days.. this is how fast the pstem wants to right itself .Please don't report me to PETB... People for the Ethical Treatment of Bananas.

Almost every Banana I planted that was cut from the mother or larger corm is leaning away from the cut no matter the type, and I'm talking in the ground or in the pot.

To give the "nerdy" scientific answer, the cells inside plants elongate more on the side that is facing the sun. This is very common and probably more easily noticed on plants being grown in interior sites. Rotating the plants slightly every few days allows all the cells to elongate a bit, thus making them grow straighter.

Great looking plants! I should have gotten in on that. It looks like enough members are growing them now that I can hopefully get a couple of pups next spring.

Bananas in the ground are going to lean to some extent. There is no point in straightening them out in regards of their search for sunlight. I have a Orinoco under a Live Oak that is leaning at, er, if you go by a clock, it's at 1:30.

I have a Saba that I planted that went in the opposite direction of how I planted it due to, I think, the wind blowing it. I gave up on fixing it.

It's fine if they lean. It's what they do when they are far enough North. I have some GMs and Double Mahoi in containers that lean within hours of moving them.

There was a video here at some point that someone took of their banana (with other plants in the back ground) moving towards the sun from inside their house. If I find it I'll post it.

Found the video. It doesn't show the banana leaning but you can see the elephant ears lean. Same thing, different plant:
