Hello everyone,
I bought a few TC bananas a few months ago and just about everything is going awesome. I do have a question about pups though. My Double Mahoi wants to pup and pup and pup. I've been taking them out, but they keep coming back. Is there some point that I should give in? I would like for the main p-stem to get bigger of course and it is slowly, but for some reason it loves to pup.
Should I just toss it up to "that's how the variety grows" or keep managing it.
Thanks.

I think it being a cavendish its going to do that or maybe its something your feeding it. I had a DC the more I cut off pups the more it produced them. By the time it was 7 ft. it had 21 on so I wouldn't give up yet unless you wanna grow a pup to plant. :^)

It is not going to make much difference either way as long as there is room for them . Let them grow. The biggest bunch I every got was on a D.Namwah that was loaded with pups.

D Namwah is a pup factory. That's why it has been replaced. With Chini Champa!

I bought my Double Mahoi TC 4 months ago and have yet to have a pup. The plant is growing fine and appears healthy.
Mine has 15, time to start thinning the herd.

I wonder why there is a difference in growth habit. (Perhaps this is just normal too) That makes me very curious. Does anyone have some general ideas on that? Sorry if I am being captian noob!

I believe if you let lots of pups grow without cutting them off it will slow down the mother plant and affect fruit yield.

Not enough to make a difference ,unless you are a commercial grower.
Mine has more pups than my neighbor's DMs, and theirs both have large bunches, mine is about a foot taller with more pups, and has yet to bloom. Conditions are pretty much the same, except mine gets more water. Thus far the puppage has not stunted the growth, but may have something to do with the lack of bloom. I'm not really experienced with these.

Today while weeding I did a pup count on my two Ae Ae mats. Came to 16 including the 1/2 inch tall peepers. Guess that all the winter stressing was good for something!:woohoonaner: Or maybe it was all the organics --- kelp, fish and myco drenches. Or maybe both.

I think it was Richard here on this list that mentioned kelp as a growth hormone .. I used it on some of my plants from time to time and fish also .. that might explain my pups on my FHIA 17 ? Or that just might be normal for it to pup from all this DAGUM RAIN...
