hi , growing hardy bananas in ontario this year. doing very well in the hot summer , just installed a drip irrigation system which as far as i can roughly calculate is dripping at a .5 gallon per hour for 7 plants over 20 feet of pipe. is this enough water or does it need more. thought i would let it be and then give it a water with the hose just on a weekend

How many hours a day or is this uninterrupted ?

Uninterupted its just gravity fed from rubber maid container . I also mixed in water soluble fertilizer. They have been growing so fsst i assume they are happy and already have 4-7 pups on each of the plants

If I read you right, then that is 17 gal/plant/day (not liters???) That is huge! I do not think, that
you can drown a banana, as long as you have decent drainage, but you wash a lot of nutrients out
of your soil.

I am terrible at math .
Its a 27 gallon container and it took just over 54 hours to empty.
So i think its 0.5 gallons per hour sprend on 7 seperate plants. So say about a cup of water each hour on each plant.
Its only been on the drip this week but never used a drip and wasnt sure if it was too little or too much.

That is still quite a bit. I spray irrigate the areas containing banana plants once every 48 hours
for 15 minutes during the nights and I live in the arid South Okanagan.

How much that is in gal/plant I have no idea, since the water is shared by a lot of other plants.

By comparison the air anywhere in Ontario is a lot more humid.

Good luck,
Olaf

Russel (assuming thats your name) Im about an hour from you. I dont have my plants on drippers but assuming you drip 0.5L/hour, thats 12gal per day to 7 plants, so approx 1.7gal or 6.5L per plant per day. My bigger nanner in the ground takes about that everyday or everyother day at least, if it doesnt get that it folds its leaves up to let me know its a little ticked off. Since we havent had rain in like 3 weeks, it really depends how big your nanners are, if they are in pots, what kind of soil you use, if they are in full sun, etc. If your nanners aren't that big however, I would suggest using maybe half this amount, so just fill your resevoir half way full or something. A pic would be awesome!
