This banana plant was purchased less than 2 years ago from a local nursery in the Tampa Bay area. We've relocated it to its current position less than 1 year ago. Much to our surprise, we see that it's now bearing fruit. We're so happy with this plant and would love to know what kind it is. Thanks.

Can you provide a full-scale shot of the entire plant or at least tell us how tall it is? It's hard to tell from your photo but it looks rather short. Given the very short petioles I'd guess it's some sort of Dw. Cavendish, possibly even Super Dw. Cavendish but it's tough to tell from this photo.

Many cavendish produced by TC techniques are dwarfed due to too much hormone used in the process. Live rates are increased but dwarfing predominates.

It does look like a cavendish, judging from the brachs. :jalapenonaner:
