hi

years ago i've been into bananas but after i while i became interested into medicinal plants, and after some harsh winters i decided to stop growing bananas.

well.. this year i bought some bananas again... ( musa basjoo etc)

im going to move a bigger appartement next week and my question is :

what banana plants are suitable for growing indoors ? example can i grow musa basjoo indoors ? is ensete ventricosum a worthwhile plant to grow indoors ( long term )

Light isn't a problem and i keep most plants alive - i always have huge amounts of plants indoors so it isn't very dry either.

would aphids and spider mites be significant problems ? which species ( indoor and outdoor species ) are less prone to spider mites and aphids ?

im not a newbie, i just don't have much experience growing bananas indoors and i want to know if it's worthwhile before investing lots of money into it.

thanks .

I guess as long as you have sufficient light all bananas can be grown indoors, - until they get too tall.

I have done that with a basjoo in winter 2010 -2011 at a bright window with no artificial light.

In spring I planted it outside though. A banana, which will not outgrow most homes is the Musa Ornata.
More about this one and how I got a hold of mine here: www.bananas.org/f2/i-think-i-scored-coup-13386-2.html . I started that thread before
I had ever heard of "room-sized bananas" on this forum and thought I had a real special discovery.

You will have to scroll down to the beginning of the thread in order to get a sense of the size. BTW the
one I brought home with me is already the same size as the ones pictured in that thread, but has so far
shown no sign of blooming. I attribute that to the fact, that it spent the winter indoors and is now
recovering from transplanting it into my 'tropical planter'.
